Artisan Profile
Being a native of the scenic hills of East Tennessee, Artisan Greg Hooker has been surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation his entire life. His natural artistic abilities were constantly inspired and challenged to incorporate the splendor of his surroundings into his art work. From an early age, Greg won several awards for his talents during his school years. During which, his main form of art was acrylic painting. Rustic barns, historic grist mills, woodland ponds, beautiful foliage and babbling brooks were just some of the things he captured on canvas. He also enjoyed using other mediums such as carving and sculpting to showcase his talents. In 1996, Greg met a man who worked with copper and was again inspired to make use of his talents. Through research, trial and error, and sheer perseverance, he taught himself to design patterns, hand-cut, mold, braze and patina individual pieces of copper into the beautiful fountains and sculptures you see today. Greg continues to draw upon God’s beauty in creation to inspire him with blueprints for his fountains and other creations. He attributes his abilities to his faith in God and encouragement from his wonderful wife, Audrey. He understands that without Christ he could do nothing. Therefore, with great pride in his workmanship, Greg strives to pay close attention to minute details in order to bring each customer an original work of art to enjoy for many years. Since the founding of "Fountains of Living Waters" Greg has won many awards, including the following: · Iris Festival, Greeneville, TN “Best of Show” · MOVA Art Festival, Guntersville, AL “First Place" · Hamilton County Fair, Chattanooga, TN “Best Workmanship” and “Best Demonstration” · Festival in the Park, Charlotte, NC “Honorable Mention” · Mulberry Festival, Collierville, TN “Purchase Award” · Seawall Art Show, Portsmouth, VA “Purchase Award” |
